Report Questions Bristol Chief's Actions

A report is questioning the actions of Bristol's embattled police chief in a controversial gun hording incident.

An independent report details the investigation into the discipline of Bristol Sgt. Rodney Gotowala, who was accused of hording guns, according to the Bristol Press

The report reveals that Bristol Chief John DiVenere tried to minimize punishment for the officer’s supervisor and that the mayor had little knowledge of the function of the city's police board.

The sergeant was issued a three-week suspension last August for misleading the public about how he got the guns used in city criminal cases which he stored unmarked for years at the police department.

The report says the punishment should have been approved by the police commission. Mayor Art Ward is head of the commission.
