Local Olympians to Go for Gold

The U.S. women’s hockey team will play for the gold in Sochi and several local Olympians have been contributing to the ride.

Julie Chu, or Fairfield, and fellow Choate Rosemary Hall alums Hilary Knight and Josephine Pucci played for the United States team, which defeated Sweden, 6-1.

Quinnipiac University student Erica Uden Johansson played for Sweden.

Uden Johansson took the 2013-2014 year off from Quinnipiac to play hockey in Sweden to increase her chances of making the Olympic team.

The United States will play the winner of the late semifinal between Canada and Switzerland for the gold medal. A victory by Canada would set up a rematch of the 1998, 2002 and '10 finals.

The U.S. won the gold medal in Nagano then took silver in Salt Lake City and Vancouver. Canada also won Wednesday's game in the preliminary round 3-2.
