From G League to projected top-3 NBA draft pick: Meet Scoot Henderson

While Victor Wembanyama is the prize of the 2023 NBA Draft, Scoot Henderson shouldn't be overlooked

Victor Wembanyama and then?

It's no secret that the San Antonio Spurs will select the French phenom with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. But what happens next isn't nearly as obvious.

Guard Scoot Henderson is regarded by many as the second-best prospect behind Wembanyama, but the team with the No. 2 overall pick -- the Charlotte Hornets -- already has a young lead ball-handler in LaMelo Ball. That's left the door open for Charlotte to go with wing Brandon Miller.

If Charlotte does pass on Henderson, he shouldn't have to wait much longer to hear his name called. Regardless of whether the Portland Trail Blazers stay at No. 3 or another team trades up, it would be stunning if Henderson made it past that spot.

So before we learn Henderson's NBA destination, here's what to know about the consensus top-three prospect who didn't play college basketball.

Who is Scoot Henderson?

Like Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga, Scoot Henderson opted not to go the traditional college route and instead spent two seasons with the G League Ignite.

He's actually already gone head-to-head against the consensus top pick, as the Ignite played two exhibition games against Wembanyama and Metropolitans 92 in Las Vegas last October. While Wembanyama stole the show in the two contests, Henderson also impressed.

He posted 28 points on 11 of 21 shooting, five rebounds and nine assists in the first game.

He exited the second game early after banging knees with Wembanyama.
