Miller Scores 18; UConn Beats Tulane

Shonn Miller scored 18 points and Connecticut rolled to a 60-42 victory over Tulane on Tuesday night.

Miller shot 7 of 16 from the floor. Omar Calhoun added 12 points for the Huskies (13-5, 4-2 American), who have won eight of their last ten games. It was the fewest points Connecticut has given up since beating Sacred Heart 92-49 on Dec. 2.

Louis Dabney scored 15 points to lead Tulane (8-12, 1-6), which has lost six of its last seven.

Miller scored 12 points in the first half on 5-of-8 shooting to help the Huskies build their largest lead, 28-9 with 6:25 left in the first half, and they led 32-18 at halftime. Tulane shot 2-of-15 from the floor during the Huskies' run, and missed eight straight shots before Malik Morgan's jumper made it 13-7 at the 12-minute mark.

The Green Wave, which shot 18.8 percent (6 of 32) in the first half, made just four free throws in the final 4:00 before the break. Dylan Osetkowski was the only Tulane player to make more than one field goal in the half, scoring seven points on 2-of-7 shooting, but he didn't score in the second half.

Dabney made back-to-back 3-pointers to cut Connecticut's lead to 36-28. Dabney added two jumpers, and Blake Paul made a pair of free throws to pull Tulane to 43-36 with 9:48 left. The Huskies used a 15-0 run to push their lead to 58-36 with 2:18 to play. The Green Wave missed eight shots and had four turnovers during the stretch.

Connecticut made just 19 of 35 shots from the field for 36 percent, and scored its fewest points since losing to Temple, 55-53 on Jan. 5.

Tulane shot 26 percent on 14-of-54 shooting.

Connecticut: Shonn Miller has scored in double figures in 13 straight games. ... The Huskies dominated in the paint, 22-12, but finished with just a slight edge on the glass, 39-38. ... Miller and Kentan Facey matched a game-high with seven boards. Facey finished with eight points, and Daniel Hamilton added six rebounds and chipped in seven points. ... Amida Brimah, a 7-foot junior center, did not play in his ninth straight game because of a broken finger. The Huskies are 7-2 without Brimah, who is expected to return next month.
