New Britain High School Star Signs with Providence

New Britain High School's Symone Roberts is signed up and ready to be a Friar.

The all-time leading scorer in New Britain High School girls basketball history signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play basketball at Providence College next season.  Roberts said the location of the school in Rhode Island was a factor in her decision.

"I choose Providence cause it's not that far away from home, but it's far away enough that I can enjoy college," said Roberts.  "The coaching staff and players were really nice and kind.  I felt like it was a home away from home."

Roberts won back-to-back state championships in her freshman and sophomore years and looks to avenge a loss in the 2008 Class LL title game.  But with the jump to Big East basketball next year, Roberts knows that the competition will be much greater with national powerhouse UConn on her schedule.

"I'll take the challenge, I'll be ready," said Roberts.

Roberts broke the New Britain scoring record last season as a junior and she enters her senior year with 1696 points.  Roberts has started every game in her three years as a Hurricane.
