No. 1 Huskies Beat Penn. St., 71-52

The top-ranked Huskies had little trouble with 13th-ranked Penn St. Sunday, winning 71-52 without two of their best players. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis is out with an arm injury and Morgan Tuck is sidelined with a knee injury, but it didn't matter as UConn not only made quick work of the Nittany Lions, but did the same against the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins on Friday, 72-55.

For an idea of just how good the defending champs are, even without Mosqueda-Lewis or Tuck -- and with only seven scholarship players on the bench -- just listen to coach Geno Auriemma.

"If we keep getting better," he said (via the Associated Press), "then it's going to be really hard to beat us."

Yikes.

On Sunday, senior guard Bria Hartley went for a career-high 29 points, and the lone recruit in the 2013 class, Saniya Chong, added 16 points. Hartley, who was 0-for-11 behind the arc, combined with Chong to score 23 first-half points.

"I try not to think about," missing threes, Hartley said. "Coach tells me I have to be ready to hit the next shot."

"If we stay stagnant, don't move forward from here, we're setting ourselves up to get beat," Auriemma said. "The fact that we beat three really good teams this week, that's great. That's great for the players, great for their confidence. That was a big test for them."
