Pasqualoni Talks QBs…Again

It was bound to come up because, well, it always comes up. At the Big East media day Tuesday, coach Paul Pasqualoni was asked about -- you guessed it -- the Huskies' quarterback situation. A year ago, it was a four-man race heading into training camp and 12 months later, nothing's changed save a few faces now in the competition. This much is certain, however: he'd like to have the starter in place by August 24, a week before the season opener against UMass.

“I am not patient. I don’t know if I am patient enough, but if I don’t feel it is right, I will be disciplined enough to get it right,” Pasqualoni said via SNY.tv's John Silver. “You all, and any coach in the country. If I can make the decision, the sooner, the better. I am all on board with that.”

“We have to have to done week before UMass. Whenever it is clear, it is clear. There is a chance for anything, but I really want to have a quarterback.”

And this time around, unlike his inaugural season, Pasqualoni should have some legitimate options. Johnny McEntee now has a year in the Huskies' offense and he'll be pushed by sophomores Michael Nebrich and Scott McCummings. But the most likely candidate for the job -- at least based on his spring practice performance -- is Chandler Whitmer. Of course, Pasqualoni remains noncommittal for now but he did indicate that freshman Casey Cochran, who broke his wrist recently, will be in the mix for the job.

Pasqualoni also echoed some of what we wrote Tuesday: the Huskies' defense should be a strength. Here he is talking to NBC Connecticut's Dianna Russini about the expectations heading into the season.
