That's what Miami Herald writer David Neal is basically asking in his assessment of the Florida Panthers and what they might do at next week's trade deadline: Will some team trade a package, like the Pittsburgh Penguins did last season to the Atlanta Thrashers, for a player that could easily just leave for no compensation during the summer?
It's a fascinating issue for the Panthers, but it pales in comparison to the larger one: Can the current seventh seed in the Eastern Conference trade its best defenseman and fifth-leading scorer while desperately attempting to make the postseason?
We'll talk J-Bou; Penguins deals; what the Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres might do at the deadline; and some of the names being tossed around in the last rumors chat before the trade deadline. This one might go into overtime, folks.
