Roscoe Smith Visits UNLV

Roscoe Smith was one of five players to leave the basketball program this spring, and one of three to transfer. Unlike Alex Oriakhi, who left because of NCAA sanctions keeping the Huskies out of the 2013 postseason, and Michael Bradley, who wanted to be closer to his ailing grandmother, Smith was released from his scholarship because he wanted to play small forward instead of power forward, something that may not have been in the cards had he stayed at UConn.

Oriakhi landed at Missouri and Bradley will play for Western Kentucky, but Smith has yet to decide on a school. According to the Las Vegas Journal-Review, he's looking at prospective programs, specifically, UNLV. Details via the Journal-Review's Matt Youmans:

The spring signing period ended Wednesday with Rice holding one open scholarship. Connecticut transfer Roscoe Smith, a 6-8 forward, wrapped up a two-day visit to UNLV, which also continues to court Savon Goodman, a 6-6 forward from Philadelphia.

Smith might announce his plans this weekend. Goodman cannot sign a national letter of intent at this point, yet he can sign a scholarship agreement if he chooses to commit.

The Rebels have already had a strong recruiting class, most recently landing 6-8 forward Anthony Bennett of Findlay Prep a five-star prospect who will join 6-9 Khem Birch, a Pitt transfer, and possible Smith, who may get his wish to play small forward.

As for the Huskies, a five-man recruiting class that held such promise two years ago, is now down to three after losing Jeremy Lamb to the NBA and Smith to another program: starter Shabazz Napier and backups Tyler Olander and Niels Giffey.
