Novak Djokovic stands alone in history.
The 36-year old Serbian earned his 23rd career Grand Slam title with a victory over Casper Ruud in the 2023 French Open singles championship on Sunday. That number is higher than any other men’s tennis player and broke a tie with another contemporary legend in the record books.

The 2022 season began with Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer tied for the most men’s singles grand slam titles in the Open Era (since 1968) and of all time at 20 apiece.
After winning the first two Grand Slam tournaments of 2022 – the Australian Open and French Open – Nadal moved up to a record 22 major trophies. Nadal has done most of his damage at Roland Garros with 14 French Open titles. He has also picked up four wins in the U.S. Open, two at the Australian Open and two at Wimbledon.
Since Nadal’s 2022 French Open title, Djokovic has dominated tennis’ Grand Slams. He has now won three of the past four Grand Slam tournaments – 2022 Wimbledon, 2023 Australian Open and 2023 French Open – bringing him to 23 Grand Slams and giving him the No. 1 spot all-time. He possesses 10 Australian Open titles, seven Wimbledon titles, three French Open titles and three U.S. Open titles.

Which women’s tennis player owns the most Grand Slam titles?
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek defeated Karolína Muchova in the 2023 women’s French Open final to earn her fourth major trophy. But the dominant 22-year-old from Poland has a long climb ahead of her to the top of the women’s Grand Slam leaderboard.
Serena Williams is tied with Djokovic for the most Grand Slam titles of any tennis player – male or female – in the Open Era with 23. On the all-time list, she trails Margaret Court, who won 13 of her 24 titles before the Open Era, by one for the top spot.
Williams surpassed Steffi Graf for sole possession of first in the Open Era with her 2017 Australian Open victory. That was the last Grand Slam victory for the 41-year-old American, who in 2022 said she was retiring but has not closed the door on a comeback.
