After redshirting in 2013-14, Morgan Tuck still has two years of eligibility remaining. But because she's become such a dominant force in the paint, there's the real possibility Tuck could choose to forgo her redshirt senior season for the WNBA.
Staying in Storrs would mean the chance to be part of five consecutive national championship teams. While leaving would be the next logical step in her basketball career. For now, though, Tuck doesn't sound like she's in any hurry to leave UConn.
“At this point, I’m planning on staying no matter what happens,” she told SNY.com's Carl Adamec. “In my fifth year I can get a Masters Degree and getting another degree can’t hurt you ever. I’d rather get it right after undergraduate instead of going back to school later to get it. I don’t think anything that happens next year will sway me either way because I’m bonded to the program and I love being here.”
And Tuck, like teammate Breanna Stewart, thinks that four national titles in four years is a real possibility.
“Coming here is a little different,” Tuck said. “When you come here, you really believe that you can because of the history of the program and that we’ve won so many championships. It’s not like they win when a certain person is here and the rest of the time they’re losing. The teams have changed. No other program can think that way. Others might have the same goal but coming to Connecticut you really do think it can happen.
“The teams I’m on, that’s the goal, to win the last game of the season. That’s why it doesn’t get old. When you reach one of your goals, you feel great. You have to work hard to reach it. I won by first three years in high school and didn’t my senior year. Coming into college, I didn’t want that feeling again. It was a tough way to end my high school career so now I really appreciate every time we do win because I know how it feels to lose a big game.”
