Cross Dog: Another Divine Sign

Sterling has Moses, the holy cow, but Manchester has Cross Dog.

Lindsay Lynch’s brindle French Bulldog has a large white cross across his little chest.

His breeder, who is Swiss, named the dog "Helvetius Canis," which basically means "Cross Dog," Lynch said. Helvetius comes from the Swiss flag.

But she calls the pup Capone.

“Either way, he is a Godsend angel,” she said.

Lynch and her boyfriend, Sebastian Motta, got the dog last March from a breeder in Ontario. He was 9 months old at the time

His registered name is Belboulecan Helvetius Canis. He comes from Belboulecan French Bulldogs, based in Ontario, Canada, and from “pretty cool bloodlines,” Lynch said.

The breeder's Web site shows a long line of champions and Lynch said she hopes to start showing her dog at some point next year.

Lynch said she and her dog spend a lot of time together and, unlike many bulldogs that don’t like heat, he’ll cuddle up, and he’s potty trained.

“He’s an angel. He does nothing wrong,” she said.

Although he does snore, and pretty loudly at that.

Because bulldogs are short dogs, the cross is not always apparent, unless Capone is sitting up with his head up. Then it’s clear and people will come over to him to see the bright white cross on his little brindle body.
