Even in This Economy Good Samaritans Exist

Corncord, Calif.  -- An Bay Area woman who just lost her job  and cashed out her 401K has the kindness of a stranger to thank for not losing $24,000 of her life savings.

The unidentified woman would be out thousands of dollars if it weren't for the honesty of the good Samaritan.

A bag filled with cash and checks had fallen out of her purse as she walked through a Kmart parking in Concord on Saturday night, she told police.

Fortunately for her, the man who found the bag flagged down some cops and turned it over, Concord police said.

The man's honesty was "really refreshing for us," said a police spokesman.

Officers tracked down the woman and returned her lost loot  -- $4,000 in cash and more than $20,000 in checks.

"She was elated," Sgt. Matt Morrissey told the Contra Costa Times. "She was crying — just happy tears," when officers told her they had her money.
