Police Department Says Flushing Drugs Could Lead to ‘Meth-Gators'

"Folks…please don’t flush your drugs m’kay" the department wrote on Facebook

Floridians know regular alligators are dangerous enough, but a police department in Tennessee is warning people about an even more menacing creature: the meth-gator.

The Loretto Police Department took to social media over the weekend to warn residents against flushing methamphetamine down the toilet, after they say they caught a suspect trying to do just that.

"Folks…please don’t flush your drugs m’kay. When you send something down the sewer pipe it ends up in our retention ponds for processing before it is sent down stream," the department posted on Facebook. "Now our sewer guys take great pride in releasing water that is cleaner than what is in the creek, but they are not really prepared for meth."

Officials said not only does the meth pollute the water, it can have a bad effect on wildlife.

"Ducks, Geese, and other fowl frequent our treatment ponds and we shudder to think what one all hyped up on meth would do. Furthermore, if it made it far enough we could create meth-gators in Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River down in North Alabama," the post read. "They’ve had enough methed up animals the past few weeks without our help."

Police suggested anyone who needs to dispose of any drugs should do so properly, including at a designated disposal container at their city hall.
