Nurse Says It's Time to Help Herself By Losing Weight

Suzi Waters of Middletown wants to be CT's Biggest Loser

As a nurse, Suzi Waters, 59, of Middletown, spends hours on her feet, easing the pain for patients, but she’s often the one in agony.

She says the extra weight she carries around causes the discomfort, including arthritis in her knees.

"I'm exhausted. I'm hurting and walking to the parking lot is a real problem. My knees hurt, my feet hurt," Waters said. "I'm dying to get this weight off. It's just a nightmare. I go to bed crying at night and praying all the time and wishing I could get it off and it just doesn't seem to happen."

Food has always been a constant problem in her life.

"I eat emotionally. But I eat when I'm happy. I eat when I'm sad. I eat when I'm depressed. I just always eat," she said.

The single mother has always been a caregiver. Alone, she raised a daughter, who is now a successful doctor.

She now has her first grandchild, 4-month-old Oliver, who she watches several days a week. But the time has come for Suzi to care for herself.

"I want to be happy and I want to feel good about myself and I don't want to be embarrassed to go out of the house. I tend to stay in the house a lot and people treat you different when you're heavy then when you're thin."

She says she's tried every diet out there and they work, but not for long.

So now she's ready for a permanent change and the challenge of becoming Connecticut's biggest loser.

"I'm at a point in my life, I'm 59 years old, and this is the last chance I have,” she said. "I just need to do this. I really, really do."
