Homemade Hot Chocolate with Dutch Cocoa

  • 2 ½ Cups Whole Milk
  • 4 Oz. Bittersweet or Semi-Sweet Chocolate-chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. Granulated Sugar-add more or less depending on taste
  • 3 Tbsp. Cocoa Powder-Dutch Processed preferred
  • 1 Cup Whipped Cream for Garnish

Heat the milk in a medium sized pot until barely simmering. Whisk in the chocolate and sugar until melted and smooth. Sift the cocoa powder into a small bowl. Add about ½ Cup of the milk and chocolate mixture into the cocoa powder and whisk smooth to dissolve the cocoa powder. Pour the cocoa powder mixture into the pot and whisk until smooth. Heat until simmering. Serve in warmed mugs and garnish with whipped cream or marshmallows. Serves four.
