Hot Dog With Onions in Tomato Sauce

Makes eight servings.

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 4 cups sliced onion
  • 4 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Heat the oil in a medium-size pot over high heat then add the onions.

Cook until the onions are lightly caramelized.

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.

Pour in the beer and water then bring to a simmer.

Add the salt and sugar then continue cooking until the mixture is slightly thickened.

Serve in a bowl as a topping for hot dogs or other grilled meats.
