Commissioners approve plan to raise funds for Loop 9

Funding for a highway planned for more than 50 years received a green light from Dallas County Commissioners Tuesday.

In the latest plan, Loop 9 would link Interstate 35E and Interstate 45 along the Dallas and Ellis county line to better serve the Dallas Inland Port area.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins has been championing the project as a way to shift growth patterns to Southern Dallas County.

Tuesday, commissioners approved a Reinvestment Zone that will raise $6 million for the project. The Texas Department of Transportation has agreed to provide another $50 million, Jenkins said.

The money will help pay for environmental impact studies and land acquisitions for the road.

Construction is still several years away.
