Tuesday marks the first day of school for kids in Tolland, but it is a few days later than expected.

The state has agreed to pay 89 percent of the cost to rebuild Tolland’s Birch Grove Primary School after it was discovered the building had a crumbling foundation.

Tolland voters voted on Tuesday in favor of borrowing $46 million to tear down and rebuild Birch Grove Primary School.

U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney took a close look at Birch Grove Primary School’s foundation on Tuesday. District leaders have been watching it for over a year after noticing spider-like veins in the concrete.

The only elementary school in Tolland might need to be rebuilt after cracks were found in the foundation.
