Economy Twists Amazing Dancers Out of Festival

The performers of Pilobolus can twist their bodies and morph into moving chase scenes, cowboys and the Cowboys, but they cannot turn themselves into cash.

The world-renowned Connecticut dance company that performed amazing feats during the Oscars will not be at Riverfront Recapture in September. They could not raise enough money to support the free performance.

“We’re very disappointed because the Pilobolus performance has become one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the Riverfront each year – drawing enthusiastic, standing-room only crowds,” Joe Marfuggi, president and CEO of Riverfront Recapture, said.

“Pilobolus will return to the Riverfront,” said Jonathan Wolken, development director for Pilobolus.  “We’ll start working now to ensure that funding is in place for another free performance in 2010.  The Riverfront venue is one of the dancers’ favorite places to perform – and we’ll be back there next year.”

Pilobolus made its first appearance on the Riverfront in 2004 and has performed there each year since.
