It's a chance for residents to get a glimpse inside historic homes in Hartford.
The 28th annual Holiday House Tour runs Sunday, December 7th from 11am to 4pm. You can get a look inside the Mark Twain House on Farmington Avenue and six other private homes in the area. All of them will be decorated for the holidays.
"It's a way for people to relive the glory of Hartford and see how people had once lived with butler's pantries, and back stairways, and servant call bells, an era that just doesn't exist anymore," said Carol Friske of the Friends of the Mark Twain House, the group sponsoring the event.
All proceeds benefit the non-profit tourist attraction, which has faced tough financial times recently. "We always need support and as the economy becomes even more challenging for non-profits, coming out and supporting (is important) and a great way to do it is the Holiday House Tour," said Jeffrey Nichols, the Mark Twain House executive director.
The tour typically sells 1000 tickets. Organizers hope for similar results this year, even as many people pinch pennies in this tough economy. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 the day of the event.
