LOCALS ONLY: All the time, we tell you about artists who are making stops in Connecticut as they tour the country. But, you know what? Connecticut has its fair share of talented musicians. Tonight at the Space in Hamden, the whole playbill is filled with locally grown artists. Among them is singer/songwriter Kristin Errett. Errett's music has gotten her all sorts of acclaim over the past few years. She's joined on the "menu" by another singer/songwriter. Jen Guha, of Weston, cites Ani DiFranco, Paramore and even Christina Aguilera among her influences. Also performing are Danny Henry, and keyboardist from Milford and "Speaker for the Dead," who profess to play sad songs written by happy people. The show starts at 7 p.m.
THE MOOR: It's a staple in countless high school and college lit courses. But reading the Cliffs Notes of Othello just don't do Shakespeare justice. Starting tonight, you can see one of the truly great pieces of tragedy on state at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre in Storrs (part of the University of Connecticut). See Othello, Iago and Desdemona act out their ill-fated lives, as they weave together a story of revenge, love and war. Tickets for tonight's preview performance (the show runs through Oct. 17) are $17. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
SILKY SMOOTH: The Silk City Flick Fest was born in 2009 in Manchester (aka the Silk City). This year, the fest is teaming up with the Wadsworth and moving to the big city, but keeping the small indie feel. Starting tonight, and running through Sunday, the SCFF will screen dozens of movies from around the world, but featuring some of the best filmmakers in New England. The fest kicks off with an opening night part at 5 p.m., followed by the short film Short Breath, and Birthday (about a sex worker on her 25th birthday).
