3/15: Irish Karaoke and Jews on Film

HIGH CLASS TO THE MAX: They're two of Connecticut's best known names in the food and drink biz. Tonight in West Hartford, Thomas Hooker Brewery and Max's are teaming up for a special beer dinner. Head to Max's Oyster Bar for the five-course meal. The menu includes mussels, salmon, porchetta and beef cheeks all carefully paired with a special brew from Hooker. And for dessert, enjoy a Chocolate Porter Cake, a marriage of beer and chocolate sure to tickle the taste buds. Dinner is $60 per person. 6:30 p.m.

McKARAOKE: Just two more nights to go in our St. Patrick's Day countdown. Tonight warm up your vocal cords and head down to McKinnon's Irish Pub in Hartford for some kickin' karaoke. It's the perfect chance to grab a Smithwick's (because maybe you need a break from Guinness) and belt out some U2 or Thin Lizzy. 9 p.m.

MESHUGANA FOR MOVIES: Jews and Hollywood go way back. And that relationship is still going strong. Want proof? Head to the 14th Annual Hartford Jewish Film Festival going on right now. At various locations around Greater Hartford (i.e. the Wadsworth and UHart), you can see feature films from Israel and movies from filmmakers around the world focusing on Jewish issues. This year's lineup includes "Hello Goodbye," a film about a Jewish couple dealing with their son's engagement to a Catholic girl, starring the one and only Gérard Depardieu. There's also a documentary about the Jewish roots of American basketball. Click here for a peek at the full lineup.
