The wait is over, let the party begin. Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody!

It's the day we've all been waiting for.  The greenest of all holidays.  The day when it's OK to answer the question "What's for Breakfast" with a resounding "Beer!"  Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone.  Now without further ado, here's a little sampling of events to whet your whistle on this most Irish of days.

EARLY BIRDS:  Eli Cannon's in Middletown is getting a head start on the festivities with a little Kegs and Eggs, and just builds from there.  Step one involves an Irish breakfast starting at 9am.  The lunch specials kick in at 11, with some of your favorites from across the pond.  Then, things shift into high gear for the rest of the night, with Irish Step Dancers, bagpipers and of course a selection of Irish (and Irish-inspired) brews.  And of course there will be things for you to wear to get down with your Irish self.

GOING OLD (STATEHOUSE) SCHOOL:  Stuck at work on this fine St. Patrick's day?  Why not sneak away to the Old State House in Hartford for a little lunch-time revelry.  From 11am-1:30pm.  The early afternoon concert will feature vocalist Katie Harden and traditional folk group, The Jolly Beggars.  The best part, the entertainment is free!  So slack off a little and tell your boss we said it was OK (just don't expect that to go over too well).

O'MANCHESTER:  Turns out, this town's big enough for both of them.  Both the Main Pub and the Hungry Tiger are breaking the shamrocks for a St. Patrick's Day Celebration/Party.  At the Hungry Tiger, partyers will enjoy Corned Beef and Cabbage to go along with live music from the likes of Tommy O. and Slim Tempo, Dave Connelly and the Blaney Brothers and Erik Sak & Friends.    The Main Pub also features corned beef and cabbage, but also boasts green beer and live Celtic and Irish music from Don Sineti and his Irish friends.  Cant decide where to go?  Who says you have to?
ST. PARROTHEADS DAY:  Forget about green beer.  Head down to to Mohegan Sun and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville for a left of center St. Patrick's Day bash.  The restaurant and bar is offering their "Green Beer is Overrated... IRISH I had a MARGARITA!" party.  Folks will get to enjoy $3.17 food and drink specials, and if today is your birthday, you get a $31.70 food and beverage gift certificate.  The party gets underway promptly at 3:17pm.  And if you don't get the 3/17 tie-in, then we're just not talking to you any more.

SMOTHERED IN SHAMROCKS:  Rounding out the celebration is a trip down to the Brass City.  The Smothers Brothers are helping folks in Waterbury get their Irish Up tonight.  The controversial, but hilarious duo is bringing their unique brand of comedy to the Palace Theater for a special St. Patrick's Day show.  We're not sure what/if anything about the show is St. Patrick's related, but all those in the audience will get a complimentary corned beef sandwich courtesy of Emily's Catering Group (so you got that going for ya).  Tickets are $35-$55.  7:30pm.

By the way, can you believe I went this entire article without mentioning Guinness once?  Oh well.  Slainte!
