5/10: Music and Munchies

BLACK BELT IN KUNG FU"NK":  Fill your Monday night with music by heading Stella Blues in New Haven tonight.  Kung Fu is bringing their brand of "lethal funk" to the Elm City night spot.  The band is a super group of local members featuring Tim Palmieri (The Breakfast), Todd Stoops (RAQ), Kris Jenson, David Livolsi and Adrian Tramontano (The Breakfast).  9 p.m.

ON THE MARKET:  In Hartford, the Firebox Restaurant is presenting their Market Mondays.  Each Monday evening, the Firebox morphs into an intimate, casual gastro pub.  Quick aside, the term gastro just doesn't whet the appetite, does it?  Serious, gastro pubs are the "in" thing in epicurianism right now, and the food is usually fantastic, but the word gastro just seems, I don't know, funky.  Anyways, the Firebox menu features local and seasonal ingredients made into farmers market-fresh cuisine (now there's a foody word) designed by sous chef Matt Brodeur.  Tickets are $35 per person.  5 p.m.-10.p.m.

LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME:  Wow, did I really just throw out an Elton John lyric?  Anyway, the springtime is in full swing, and when the sun shines during the day, the 'sets can  be phenomenal.  So grab that special someone (figuratively of course) and head over to the Grist Mill in Farmington for their Sunset Dining Special.  Diners can choose from eight different dinner specials, all of them just $19.95.  And if your feeling "saucy," you can enjoy a half-priced bottle of wine as you watch the sun dip below the Farmington River.
