7/28: Good Food, Good Fun and Goo

SOMETHING FOR THE FAN IN US: The Goo Goo Dolls may be best known for their 1998 hit "Iris" from the "City of Angels" soundtrack, but the band does have twelve other Top 10 hits, most of which you’ll probably be able to hear tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena. The band is currently on tour to promote their ninth studio album, "Something for the Rest of Us," which will be released at the end of August. So expect new songs mixed in with fan favorites like "Slide," "Black Balloon," and "Broadway." Joining the Goo Goo Dolls on tonight are alternative rockers Switchfoot and The Spill Canvas. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $40.

THE GIRL STILL HAS FUN: Do you long for the 80s? Are you a girl (or guy) who just wants to have fun? Did you love her on "Celebrity Apprentice?" If you answered yes to any of these questions be sure to make the drive to Ridgefield tonight where Cyndi Lauper will be performing at the Ridgefield Playhouse. The singer, who was recently honored by Mattel by being turned into a Barbie Doll as part of the "Ladies of the 80’s" series, will be performing songs from her eleven albums, including her newest blues release, "Memphis Blues." But our bets are she'll pull out some of her classics such as "Time After Time", "True Colors" and of course, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun". Ticket prices range from $85-$95, and show time is at 8 p.m.

CHOW DOWN FOR A CAUSE: Tonight is the last night of Blue Back Square’s Tastes N’ Toasts Series, meaning it’s your last chance to help a local charity simply by eating out. Moe’s Southwest Grill will host the final night in the series, and is a place where you’ll be greeted with a cheerful "Welcome to Moe’s" and the smell of chain’s signature burritos and tacos. The Tastes N’ Toasts Series offers diners discounts on their food, appetizer and drink specials, and includes a $10 charitable donation at the door. This week’s charity has yet to be announced, but past charities include Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters and the MS Society. Moe’s Southwest Grill is located at 54 Memorial Road in West Hartford, and the event takes place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
