Stars to Shine at Travelers

A number of big-time celebrities will participate in the annual Celebrity Pro-Am.

A host of stars will be teeing it up at the 2011 Travelers Championship Celebrity Pro-Am.

One of the highlights of the tournament at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell each year is the Wednesday pro-am, in which fans get a chance to check out big names from Hollywood, and the music and sports industries. This year is no exception.

"Goodfellas" star Joe Pesci will return to Cromwell June 22 for the pro-am. He has been a fixture at the event for the past few years. Actor Luke Wilson, of such hits as "Old School" and "The Royal Tenenbaums" will be back for his second straight year.

Grammy-Award-winning singer Michael Bolton will play again this year, after a good round in last year's Celebrity Pro-Am. The New Haven native, will also hold a concert at the Bushnell Theater during tournament week.  There's no word if the crooner will belt out a rendition of his Saturday Night Live" ode to Captain Jack Sparrow.

World Wrestling Entertainment fans will be excited to see first-time participant Mike "The Miz" Mizanin at the TPC. UConn head coach Jim Calhoun and ESPN personality Chris Berman finish out the first round of celebrity announcements for the tournament.

The Celebrity Pro-Am has been a favorite at the tournament since the early 1980s, when it was known as the Sammy Davis, Jr. Greater Hartford Open. In those days, some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Jerry Lewis, Jackie Gleason, and even the great Bob Hope would come play a round and support their friend, Sammy Davis, Jr.

This year's celebrity day will be capped off with a concert by rocker Eddie Money.

Tournament play for the Travelers Championship runs June 23-26.
