Buy Art, Help Haiti

Yale is hosting an art auction fundraiser

Fundraisers for Haiti range from huge telethons, thanks to people like George Clooney, to school groups selling cookies, to Ivy Leaguers selling their artwork.

That’s what the artistically-inclined at Yale University are doing to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti. It's the latest of a long line of Haiti relief events the school is hosting.

Yale’s School of Art will hold a silent auction of work created by students and faculty, starting today and continuing to Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To see what you can buy, check out the display at Green Hall Gallery at 1156 Chapel St. Winning bidders will be announced at 8 p.m. on the final night of bidding.

Since this is Yale, which prides itself on delivering quality education, the closing event on Feb. 8 features a brief talk about conditions in Haiti.

If you’re one of the top bidders, bring your checkbook to the closing event. There will be a list of suggested charitable organizations available to bidders, and winners can make their checks payable to the organization they choose. You can also make contributions online at the event without purchasing art.
