12/7: Potter, Jazz and Food

MUGGLE MANIA:  "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" was one of the summer's biggest blockbusters.  Now, the sixth installment of the boy-wizard series is coming out on DVD (just in time for Christmas, wonder if that's a coincidence?).  To celebrate the release, Blockbuster is holding midnight release parties across the country.  And one of them is right here in Connecticut.  Potterheads (just made that up) can head to the Blockbuster at 1253 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, CT, to be among the first to get their hands on a copy of the movie.  Activities will include trivia challenges, a muggle toy collection for charity, snacks, prizes (one fan will get free movie rentals for a year) and more.  The fun starts at 8pm.

SWING AWAY:  UConn's Von der Mehden Hall is the place to be for some holiday cheer tonight.  The school's jazz ensembles, led by Earl MacDonald, John Mastroianni, bill Reynolds and Gregg August will lead you through "Yule be Swingin," an evening of seasonal favorites with a jazz twist.  Tickets are $7.  8pm.

DOWNTOWN DINING: The holiday season is in full swing in the Elm City, and now's your chance to get a taste.  Take a culinary walking tour through downtown New Haven today.  The guided tour takes you to historic eateries like the Union League Cafe, Louis' Lunch, BAR, York St. Noodle, the Cupcake Truck and more.  And when you're showing your love for downtown in person, do it online.  Take part in our latest Golden Local debate by clicking here.  The culinary tour is $59 per person.  Call (203) 777-8550 for reservations.  1:30pm.
