8/31: Last of the Dog Days

INTERSTATE LOVE SONGS:  10-15 years ago, you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger band than Stone Temple Pilots.  Starting with 1994's "Plush," STP had a string of #1 hits and platinum records.  Then, just like a VH1 Behind the Music episode, drugs and in-fighting got in the way, and Scott Weiland and his band-mates went their separate musical and personal ways.  But after years apart, STP has reformed in recent years, trying to recapture some of the magic that made them one of the best rock bands in the world.  Tonight, they're taking the stage at Mohegan Sun Arena.  Tickets for the show are $44.50 and $54.50.  The show starts at 7:30 with opening act Cage the Elephant.

GOING OLD SCHOOL:  New Haven is the place to be tonight for some one-stop-shopping merriment without spending too much money.  The Old School Saloon and Bistro is offering both their Prix Fixe Dinner and a little Ladies Night Karaoke.  Start at 5 p.m. with the four-course prix fixe menu that includes entrees like lobster ravioli, BBQ St. Louis ribs and your choice of eight different gelato flavors for dessert.  Once you've had your fill, it's time to unwind with a little public embarrassment.  From 8 p.m.-1 a.m. the karaoke machine will be cranking out tunes.  At the same time, you can enjoy $5 Stoli Drinks, $5 glasses of wine and other beer specials.

THE CLASSICS:  It's all about horsepower tonight in Branford.  From 6 p.m.-9 p.m. vintage cars will fill the parking lot at Rita's Italian Ice for their weekly Cruise Night Car Show.  Besides checking out the classic rides, there will also be a DJ rocking out classic tunes from the '50s.  And as a cherry on top of you car show sundae, there's a raffle featuring gift certificates to Rita's or TNT Seafood and Grill.
