Best Restaurants of 2012

Connecticut Magazine asked its readers to pick the best restaurants for the coming year.

While 2011 comes to a close, Connecticut Magazine has released it's list of best restaurants in the state for 2012.

The magazine polled its readers to find out their favorites in 27 different categories.

The readers' choice for best overall experience went to New Haven's Union League Cafe.

Housed in one of New Haven's most historic buildings on Chapel Street, the Union League Cafe serves up some of the finest French cuisine outside France, according to some food critics.

Head Chef and owner Jean Pierre Vuillermet discovered his calling as a child, helping in the kitchen of his parents' restaurant in France. He has brought many of those French tastes to New Haven.

Other restaurants made the list as well.

Best new restaurant went to Mezon in Danbury, and LeFarm in Westport was named best American restaurant. For best service, readers like Match in South Norwalk. Best Brunch went to Water's Edge Resort & Spa in Westbrook.

For those who love dessert, magazine readers said Good News Cafe in Woodbury takes the cake.
