Billy Grant is heading to the White House this week.
The well-known local chef, who’s behind the grilled lobster and cheese sandwich that’s been on Oprah, has been handpicked to help launch First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Chefs Move to Schools” program.
On Friday, he and other respected chefs will be on the South Lawn of the White House to introduce a new program aimed at giving children access to the healthy foods they need.
Grant, who owns Grants Restaurant, Restaurant Bricco in West Hartford, has been involved with Share our Strength for more than 10 years and was nominated by the organization.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will run the “Chefs Move to Schools” and pair chefs with schools in their local communities to help create healthy meals that meet the schools’ budgets and dietary guidelines.
Grant will open Bricco Trattoria coming early this summer to Glastonbury.
