Where to get good summer eats in Connecticut

If you're taking a ride down Route 44 in Canton, you don't have to go hungry.

Just off the road, you'll find Dilly's.

"Dilly's is a fast food restaurant taken from the Philadelphia cheese steak sandwich," said owner, Bob Cohen.

The restaurant boasts the best Philly cheese steak outside of Philly.  Customers aren't disputing that.

"It was great, very good,” said customer, Jack LaPenta.

"They have a couple variations on the cheese steak, about 5 or 6.  I like it.  I would recommend it," said customer Josh Callahan.

The owner says the secret is using Angus beef. But that's not all you'll get at Dilly's.

"Philly, for sure, hot dogs for sure.  And hamburgers.  Those are the three main things we do and all sorts of kinds of fries," said Cohen.

The idea here is to get a made to order meal with a hometown feel.

"The old fashioned roadside stand.  Who didn't as a kid go for hot dogs on the way to the beach.  It's a great thing," said LaPenta.

"It's more of a townie, mom-and-pop kind of non-chain like, one of a kind sort of operation," said Cohen.

There's no better time to eat up this type of fare than in summer.

"It's exactly that, it's summer food," said Cohen.
