Pop the Cork, Winefest's Coming

Whether you’re an experienced wine lover with a collection that includes a Sauternes from 1989 or you’re a rookie who can barely tell the difference between a Pinot Noir and a Pinot Grigio, you will want to head to Mohegan Sun on Jan. 30 and 31. But you’ll have to act quickly.

Sun Winefest 2010 is approaching and many of the events have already sold out.

In case this is the first you’ve heard of it, Winefest is billed as the largest food and wine show in the state.

Give your taste buds a treat at the Grand Tasting, which is both Saturday and Sunday. Your tasting can include fine wines and selections from an extensive variety of boutique ales.

Since this event is all about wine, you can also browse wine-related accessories and start developing your vino wish list.

The event brings together regional, national and international suppliers who will pour more than 600 varieties. Wine producers will dispense their wine knowledge, answer your questions and provide information on their wines, vineyard tours and pricing.

Of course, with all that wine, you’ll need something in your stomach. And distinctive New England restaurateurs will be there to do just that. They’ll be offering signature-tasting portions, albeit for a minimal charge.
Other events include main stage seminars by wine, spirit and ale experts. Attendees can taste vintage wines and learn from some of the industry's best.

What you spend on your day of wine, minus the roses, will support charities including the Connecticut Sports Foundation Against Cancer and The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. For more information, visit Sun WineFest '10 online.
