Bad Economy = Great Sales

First, it was gas prices, now it seems super-sized savings are the second silver lining in this down economy. Many major retailers, which operate in CT, saw double-digit drops in sales last month. With lots of fall inventory still on shelves, stores are rolling out the sale signs, and doing it earlier than ever this holiday shopping season.

Some deals you can get today:

  • Kohl's is selling $250 diamond earrings for under $78.
  • KMart is selling a 32-inch LCD-TV for $440. It used to sell for $550.
  • Walmart is selling a Magnavox Blu-ray player for $198. Last week it was $229.

And many stores, like American Eagle, Ann Taylor, Chico's, Gap, Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works are offering store wide sales.
Experts say, even with the deep discounts, this could end up as the weakest holiday season for retailers in decades. They're blaming it on a variety of factors, most notably the weak economy, and rising unemployment rate.
