Driver, Passenger Hospitalized After I-91 Rollover

A crash and vehicle rollover on Interstate 91 caused massive delays on Wednesday morning and reached a point of congestion where people even got out of their vehicles.

Rafael Ortiz, 39, was driving south on I-91 when he lost control of the vehicle, hit the median, flipped over it and landed on I-91 north, police said. Ortiz suffered head trauma and the passenger, Cavsnia Santiago, 37, complained of general pain, police said. Both were taken to Hartford Hospital.

Only the right shoulder of Interstate 91 North in Hartford was getting in the area of 28 and 26, but state police said around 8 a.m. that they would try to turn traffic around to get drivers off the highway. The crash scene was clear around 8:45 a.m.
