The Cold Case Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in Rocky Hill is now working with the Simsbury Police Department to help solve the murder of 54-year-old, Melissa Millan, who was a Mass Mutual executive, the NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters have learned.
Monday marks three years since the death of the divorced mother of two from Simsbury.
On the night of Nov. 20, 2014, Millan, was out for a jog along Iron Horse Boulevard, less than a half mile from the police station, when she was stabbed once in the chest and died.
Millan was found covered in blood next to the footpath by the Rotary Park playground.
Simsbury police told NBC Connecticut the case never went cold, that officers have been actively investigating and they’re expanding their resources by partnering with the Cold Case Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. The partnership began in recent months.
"We haven't ruled anyone out, we haven't ruled anyone in. This is a complete fresh start," said Deputy Chief State's Attorney Len Boyle.
Everyone is being interviewed again, according to Simsbury police. Those interviews have already started.

"We are certain there were people on Iron Horse Blvd. Nov. 20th at 8 pm at the time Melissa was murdered who have not been interviewed by the police. Who have not come forward. We believe it's because they didn't realize what they saw might have any value to the police," Boyle said.
“We’ve collected a large amount of evidence, some biological, some digital, some collected at the time of the event, others collected on search warrants later. With the assistance from the FBI right from the start and assistance from our regional partners locally, Hartford Police department and State Police, a lot has been collected. The state lab has been open to reexamining items and we’ve doing that throughout this process,” Simsbury Sgt. Tom Sheehan told NBC Connecticut.
A $40,000 reward is still being offered, according to Simsbury officials.
