Man Charged With Stealing Gun From FedEx Route

A Windsor Locks man turned himself in Monday on charges he stole packages while working as a subcontracted FedEx driver during the holiday season.

James Connor is accused of stealing a high-priced Perazzi rifle, 500 rounds of ammunition and a gaming tower in December.

According to the arrest warrant, the items were being shipped via FedEx, but never made it to the intended recipients. In each case, police were able to trace the packages back to delivery routes assigned to Connor.

Police looked a surveillance video and determined Connor failed to scan the packages onto his truck, according to the arrest warrant. In the case of the rifle, Connor is also accused of having his supervisor delete the item from his cargo after loading it in his truck, police said.

When first contacted about the missing packages, Connor allegedly made denials and excuses as to what happened to them, but he recently began cooperating with police, according to court documents.

Connor turned himself in to South Windsor and Windsor Locks police. He is charged with felony theft of a firearm and two counts of larceny.

He did not answer questions outside of court after being released on bond Monday.

According to court documents, Connor sold the stolen gun online, but directed police to where they could find it. It will be given to its rightful owner after the court proceedings are completed, police said. The other items will be returned as well.
