New Alleged Abuse Incident at Whiting: Sources

Three staff members at Connecticut's maximum-security psychiatric hospital are being disciplined and sources tell the NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters that this is connected to a new case of alleged abuse involving a patient at the center of an even larger investigation into abuse allegations.

The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the agency overseeing Whiting, cannot confirm this new information and said there is an ongoing investigation.

On Monday, DMHAS did confirm that a longtime nurse and two veteran mental health workers had been reassigned to non-patient care, but they did not specify what patient it involved and said this is not connected to the large investigation into allegations of patient abuse at Whiting.

Nine Whiting staff members have been arrested in connection with the prior case and 31 have been placed on administrative leave.

Those who are on leave have been accused of repeatedly abusing a patient over a one-month period or failing to report the alleged abuse.
