Early Outlook: A Few Big Snow Storms Possible

Snow-free winter unlikely despite expectation of warmer than average temperatures

El Niño, El Niño, El Niño. The warm water in the Pacific Ocean is already dominating the weather around the globe and experts say this will only become more apparent over the coming months.

The latest outlook from the Climate Prediction Center shows a classic El Niño setup with warmer than average temperatures from New England to the Pacific Northwest for the month of November. That is expected to last into December and January.

Will Connecticut avoid scenes like last year all winter long? Probably not. While most experts agree winter will be warmer than normal, that doesn't give an indication either way about how snowy the winter will be. So, don't throw away shovels yet…chances are the state will be digging out at least a few times over the next couple months.
