A StormTracker Alert has been issued for today. We're expecting gusty winds and heavy rainfall which could lead to scattered power outages across the state through this evening.

Periods of rain will continue through the evening, with a few heavy downpours possible at times. 1"-2" per hour rainfall rates can occur through the rest of the day. Rain totals of 1.5"-3" is possible with isolated 4"+ amounts.

The forecast below shows the progression of a cold front and associated strong thunderstorm threat. In this squall line of storms, the rain will be torrential and the winds can cause damage. Gusts 50-60 mph are possible.

Urban street flooding, poor drainage flooding and even small rivers and streams can flood in a set up like this.

The rain is one issue, and something we really need since we are still in a drought. The potentially bigger issue is the WIND! Southerly winds through this evening could gust over 50 mph. If these winds verify, property damage and scattered power outages are possible. Winds will gradually die down overnight as rain slowly comes to an end ahead of sunrise on Thursday.

We'll return to the sunshine on Thursday and cooler temps with highs tomorrow through Sunday in the mid 30s to near 40 degrees.
