Our attention turns to the next winter storm system, set to impact Connecticut this weekend. We'll get to those details in a minute, but let's first talk about what to expect tonight!

A wind advisory is in effect tonight, lasting through tomorrow afternoon, for the potential of wind gusts exceeding 40 miles per hour. Some wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph tonight, then remain gusty to around 35 mph throughout Valentine's Day.

Unlike Thursday, when we had dozens and dozens of school delays, the weather won't stop kiddos from heading to the bus on time for Valentine's Day. It will be chillier, so dress appropriately.

Our next winter storm will arrive this weekend. Snow will begin Saturday afternoon, getting heavier through the first half of the night. Saturday night, the snow will change to a mix of sleet and freezing rain, occurring by dawn Sunday. Freezing rain could last through midday Sunday, especially in the northwest hills.

Northern Connecticut could see one-quarter to one-half of an inch of ice, which would be enough for isolated power outages and trees being weighed down. The shoreline will likely get less than one-quarter of an inch of ice.

Snow accumulation will occur Saturday, and will add up to between 2 and 4 inches across the state. Lower totals can be expected at the shore and higher totals north, toward the Massachusetts border. We will update you with the latest information regarding this messy weekend forecast!
