A tornado warning for parts of Hartford and Tolland counties expired at 5:45 p.m. and there are several reports of damage in Glastonbury, Vernon and other towns.

Police in Vernon said the storm hit them hard. There are reports of trees and wires down on Bamforth Road, Lake Street, Bolton Road, Taylor Street, Washington Street and parts of Hartford Turnpike.
At 4:58 p.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Vernon, moving north at 30 miles per hour.
A tornado warning is issued when a rotation has been noted above the ground and has the potential to extend to the surface.
People at the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester were moved into interior hallways as the storm moved through Manchester.
Connecticut Light & Power reported more than 17,500 outages at 7:30 p.m.

The utility company opened its emergency operations center and said crews are responding to outages caused by storm damage.
Elsewhere, the Route 34 Connector to Interstate 95 North in New Haven was closed because of flooding, according to state police.
The storm dumped rain at a rate of more than 1 inch per hour.
Flights were being affected at Bradley International Airport and there are delays of half of an hour or more because of storms and heavy summer travel.
More storms are expected on Saturday.
