Freezing Rain Delays Many School Openings

Driving may be treacherous Sunday night and Monday morning.

Freezing rain is causing dozens of schools to delay opening by 90 minutes to two hours on Monday morning.

Freezing rain advisories are in effect until 10 a.m. for Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven and New London counties, 11 a.m. for Hartford,  Tolland and Windham counties and until noon in Litchfield County.

Rain is falling in below-freezing temperatures, making conditions slippery in some areas of the state, including the shoreline.

The ice will create a light glaze on roads, but should not have much of an impact on trees or power lines, NBC Connecticut meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said.

Later, temperatures will rise into the 30s and 40s.
