Watch Out for Flooding

We're stuck in a pattern of rain for now.

If you’re seeing rain today, this is what happens when storms get stuck.

Flood watches are posted for the entire state as smaller rivers and streams are beginning to rise. Travel is also tricky with standing water and big puddles everywhere creating hydroplaning issues.

The jet stream usually pushes storms through the region, but an upper level low has broken away from the main jet stream this week, leaving a whirlpool of air swirling just to our south and producing plenty of clouds and rainfall.

So far, anywhere from half an inch to 3-and-a-half inches of rain have fallen in the state and it looks like today could be the wettest of the bunch.

Another inch to 3 inches of rain could fall today and tonight.

The forecast is looking better by the weekend, but the improvement will come in baby steps.

A few breaks of sun might appear tomorrow, with a better chance on Friday.

Keep in mind that sunshine heats up the atmosphere and in this weather set up, that creates an unstable situation where thunderstorms become possible.

The weekend should be mostly dry with some sun both days. There won’t be a ton of sun, but some sun is better than none.

Keep up to date on the forecast here.
