This Weekend: Sentinels on the Sound

Some of the nation's oldest lighthouses are on Connecticut's shores.

You have a rare opportunity to get inside all three of New London Harbor's lighthouses this weekend. Ledge Light, Harbor Light and Avery Point will all be open to the public for tours.

The two-and-a-half hour tour to Ledge Light includes a boat ride and a chance to see inside the French Revival style house that was built in 1909 (and is reportedly haunted!)

You can also visit Harbor Light, which is the fourth oldest lighthouse in the country. Built in 1761, Harbor Light is also accessible by boat and you'll want to wear sturdy shoes. It's a 116-step climb to the top!

Avery Point sits on the UConn Campus in Groton and will be free to tour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
