A company that has been making children's clothing in Waterbury since 1921 is shutting down its plant, leaving up to 40 people without jobs.
Waterbury Garment LLC has closed its local operation after its sale to a New York City-based clothing maker.
Waterbury Garment, which was located on Thomaston Avenue, has ceased operations, a company executive said.
The company designed, manufactured and distributed children's sleepwear for large retailers including Sears and J.C. Penney. It was sold in late October to Charles Komar & Sons Inc., which makes women's and children's underwear and lingerie.
An executive said a small group of workers remains at the company's Waterbury headquarters to tie up loose ends.
