For months, Dr. John Torres was hesitant to talk about the “light at the end of the tunnel” or the end of the pandemic. He believes the nation is not out of the woods yet. But Thursday’s announcement from the CDC, which lifted many recommendations on masking, has him thinking differently for the first time in awhile.

Connecticut's COVID-19 test positive rate came in at 1.12% Friday as hospitalizations decreased by 24, according to the latest data from the Department of Public Health.

Of the 32,583 tests reported, 365 came back positive. There are 198 currently hospitalized with the virus, a net decrease of 24.

There were five new deaths reported, bringing the death toll to 8,173.
