The body found in the woods off Park Terrace in Waterbury just before 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon might be the woman who has been missing from Thomaston for weeks.
Waterbury police said they have tentatively identified her as Barbara Grohs, 62, based on on her clothing, jewelry and a medical bracelet.
An autopsy was to be performed on Friday, but police said it will be done over the weekend because of a high volume of cases in the medical examiner's office.
Grohs had been seen last on July 30 in the area of Highland Avenue in Waterbury.
In the last few weeks, family and friends have conducted searches for her and set up a Search for Barbara Grohs Web site.
Grohs' daughter, Susan Grohs, posted on the Search for Barbara Grohs Facebook page that the body found is that of her mother.
"Tonight we learned that Mom has passed. Her wedding rings and medical ID bracelet helped identify that it was her body that was found, but we also know for sure tonight that she is safe within the arms of God. We know you are all hurting along with us. Please continue your prayers and be patient with us as we grieve. We will update you as we can. I love you, mom...you are in our hearts forever."
