Bristol Standoff Ends Peacefully

The standoff lasted 10 hours.

A tense police standoff in Bristol that lasted for about 10 hours ended peacefully on Monday morning.

Police said they received a 911 call from a man who said Bruce Berube, 58, was drunk and pointed a gun at him on Academy Street. The caller said he was afraid Berube was going to harm himself with a gun.

Police responded at 7:10 p.m. and evacuated nearby homes and members of the SWAT team spent all night negotiating with Berube.

Berube was taken into custody around 5 a.m. is being held on a $50,000 bond and has been charged with breach of peace and reckless endangerment, police said.

Neighbors have been allowed to return to their homes.

The family member who called police was not injured, police said.
